Why I made a website in 2022
It has been almost a year since I made this website. It still has the lazy design that was made (by me) on a Friday in January 2022. After one year, I wanted to take some time to do a year-end reflection on this personal project.
🏹 Keeping a log-book of my goals:
We give up most of the goals we set for ourselves in the new year. I think it's because we love to think about how we will change our lives every year; new year new me kind of thing. This gives us a dopamine high, but soon as things get tough, we give up on our goals. I think the best way to combat this is not to think too much about our goals but focus on habits and routines. Happiness is found in small everyday things anyway. The reward for work is the work itself as we are only entitled to our efforts.
This website has helped me keep track of my goals. At times, I have used it sometimes as a journal to keep track of things, especially my reading goals.
📕 Learning from the books and keeping a record:
A couple of years ago, I got frustrated with my reading practices. I use to read a book, put it away, and forget about it. So, I started writing book reviews in an effort to learn from the books I read. This year I have read the following 18 books (so far) and several of the book reviews are on this Blog. My reading speed and retention have gotten better and I suspect it is due to keeping records.
The Go-Giver
The Entrepreneur’s Roller Coaster
Deep Work
Cosmos
Brief Answers to the Big Questions
The Infinite Game
Start With Why?
The Final Empire (Mistborn # 1)
The Well of Ascension (Mistborn # 2)
The Hero Of Ages (Mistborn # 3)
The Obstacle is the Way
Man’s search for meaning
Sea of Tranquility
Wintering
Six of Crows
Everything is Fucked
Ready Player 1
Project Hail Mary
Also, I suspect it will be nice to look back at what books I was reading in my 20s when I am older.
🚙 Creating instead of consuming:
Recently, I have been interested in questions of how life formed on Earth? Does it exist anywhere else in the universe? You can see some of my recent posts have been focusing on this. This Blog has been my journal as I have been learning about the formation of life in the universe. I plan to write more posts for my future knowledge projects.
Our generation suffers from overstimulation. We spend several hours every day scrolling on the internet, and our mental health suffers due to it. Social media maximizes engagement and humans love to engage when we are angry. It drains precious energy. The energy that we could use to do more productive things; like work on relationships, acquire knowledge, get stronger, etc. In a world full of consumption, it feels good to spend some time creating something.
